"Brewster Place" won the National Book Award for best first fiction and was often likened to novels by Toni Morrison and Alice Walker among others as landmark books by black women.

Naylor, who grew up in New York City, would credit her mother for making "Brewster Place" possible. NeSMITH, Margaret "Honey" Margaret "Honey" Finley NeSmith of Sandy Springs, died October 2, 2016. Mrs. NeSmith was born in Waycross, GA on August 16, 1930 and was the daughter of the late William Em-mett Finley and Ruby Lanier Finley. He was born in Riga, Lativia on October 7, 1933, to Villis J. Zakitis, and Mirdza R. Zakitis, both of who predeceased him.

He was also predeceased by his younger sister, Eva Y. Pogue. He is survived by his wife of 49 year, Lynn Hasty Zakitis; a niece, Yana E. Pogue and her husband, Jon Lamont and a nephew, Matthew J. Pogue and his wife, Revel Wylly Pogue.

After coming to the United States with his family following WWII and becoming a naturalized citizen, he served in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and was employed by General Motors as an Industrial Engineer for over 26 years. He loved classical music, photography, tennis and riding his bicycle around Stone Mountain Park. The family wishes to thank everyone at Silverleaf Alzheimer's Care of Snellville and at Tender Touch Hospice of Atlanta for all of their loving care and assistance during Andrej's prolonged illness. He was a dedicated coach for his sons' athletic teams, respected in the business world, a tireless volunteer and still always made time for family and friends. He was a long time member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church, where there will be a memorial service, Sunday, October 9th at 2:00 PM. Reverend Shannon Dill, officiating.
