What Lego sets are coming to NASA in 2024? ›

Two more space-themed sets are slated for release in May: NASA Artemis Space Launch System and LEGO Art: The Milky Way Galaxy. They'll be available for everyone to purchase on May 18, but LEGO Insiders can place their orders on May 15 (sign up here for free).

Although the Lego Icons NASA Artemis Space Launch System set is focused on the rocket, most of the build is spent assembling the more than two-foot-tall (70-cm) mobile launcher and, in particular, its support tower.

When fully-assembled, the rocket and tower stand over 2 feet tall (70 centimeters), producing a 1:144 scale desktop model. The set does not include minifigures (nor is to minifigure scale) but does come with a printed plaque displaying details about the SLS and Orion.

As of May 2024, Artemis 2 is scheduled to launch in September 2025 as a crewed lunar flyby. The European Service Module for the mission was completed and handed over to NASA in 2023.

As of November 2021, the largest LEGO set is the LEGO Art World Map. It measures over 65cm high and 104cm wide and includes 11695 pieces, which is 2600 more than the LEGO Titanic and the previous largest set the Colosseum, and 4154 more than the Star Wars UCS Millennium Falcon.

That's right: Reddish Orange is not the only new color introduced this month. Umber Brown and Sienna Brown have been added to the list of skin colors. LEGO Friends brings us 2 new foliage pieces: a larger fern and a stack of leaves, both great additions for your nature displays.

The largest launch system to reach space is the SpaceX Starship/Super Heavy, which measures 121 m (396 ft) in height, 9 m (30 ft) in diameter and has a fueled mass of around 5,000 tonnes.

Measuring over 100 cm (39 in.) tall, this spectacular model will make a big impression wherever you display it.

The spacecraft has a height of 98 meters and a fully fueled mass of 2.6 million kg.

The scale LEGO Technic Bugatti Bolide recreation – measuring over 3” (8 cm) high, 12” (31 cm) long and 5” (13 cm) wide and featuring 905 pieces – is packed full of intricate details and immersive touches.

Also the Saturn V is in a scale of 1/110, while the 10341 Artemis set is in a scale of 1/160.

On 13 March, the KAIROS rocket from Space One company attempted its maiden flight. The rocket was destroyed in an explosion five seconds after lift-off.

The flight would slip from late 2024 to no earlier than September 2025. This was due to some safety issues that need to be fixed on Orion. Consequently, Artemis 3, which is supposed to involve the first crewed lunar landing since 1972, will take place no earlier than September 2026.

Spaceflight in 2025 promises to follow the 2020s trend of record breaking orbital launches and increased developments in lunar, Mars and low-earth orbit exploration. The Artemis 2 mission is scheduled to carry four astronauts to perform a flyby of the Moon in 2025.
