Last year, @HelloFresh, the world’s leading meal kit company, partnered with Kaplan to provide #GED courses, with zero out-of-pocket costs, for all HelloFresh hourly workers who want to earn their high school-equivalency diploma. Eligible employees can choose from either Kaplan’s self-paced GED course or its live online course offering, the only official live online preparation for the GED test. One of the HelloFresh employees who enrolled in a Kaplan GED course is Kingsley Dibiana, a production associate who lives in the #Atlanta area. We recently spoke with him about his professional and educational journey, and any words of advice he may have for others who are looking to get their GED and boost their earning and career potential. Q. Why did you decide to pursue a GED program? A. It was apparent to me that obtaining the GED was foundational to my going to college and getting better employment. Q. Can you share some of the challenges you faced before starting the GED program? A. My family and I relocated to America in 2020 in pursuit of the “American Dream” and immediately ran into a roadblock. I did not have the academic credentials acceptable to American employers and schools, so I could not easily get a job commensurate with my training and experience from my home country, nor could I contemplate going back to school to pursue a university degree right away. It was apparent to me that obtaining the GED and studying with Kaplan was foundational to my going to college and getting better employment. Q. What aspects of the GED program did you find most beneficial or impactful? A. Studying at my own pace and not being put under pressure to join a class at a designated time. The flexibility of the Kaplan program was very beneficial as I could access my study materials online at any time no matter where I was. Q. Were there any specific subjects or topics in the GED program that you found challenging or particularly rewarding? A. In the past, I struggled with mathematics and the sciences. Before the Kaplan program I had my moments of doubt. But the program was designed to address any such fears. I was able to overcome my fears and I can say that for the first time in my life, I enjoyed studying math and the sciences. And I say this with a big grin on my face. Q. How will obtaining your GED impact your personal or professional life? A. I believe that this diploma will now enable me to pursue my dream of going to college soon. Q. What advice would you give to someone considering or currently enrolled in a GED program? A. My one piece of advice to anyone considering or currently enrolled in a GED program is to stick with the program — it works! Congrats, Kingsley!
